Syrie.

‘Syrie’ is a project that is based on the Syrian refugee crisis. This body of work began from Ali’s final major project at university when the refugee crisis arose in the headlines. The work is split into three series, dry points, a4 lino prints and a5 lino prints. This work highlights the people involved in the crisis, focusing on their displacement and their emotions, and seeing them as people rather than numbers. A big inspiration for Haseebah on this project were Syrian postcards as they embodies the movement from one country to another that the Syrian refugees had to go through. When choosing a colour scheme she chose to stick to deep colours as they were seen a lot in the postcards and they worked well with the lino carving detail. With all prints that have been purchased originally 50% of the proceeds went towards a charity that helps aid Syrian refugees, this has now risen to 100% as of March 2023.

Dry Point Etchings.

This series of six dry point etchings focus in on the crowds of Syrian refugees that could be seen when the crisis was at it’s most chaotic. The orange detailing is deliberate to highlight different facial expressions and show the vastness of the crowds whether it be at a train station, migration or a camp. These A4 dry point etchings are printed onto thick paper that are similar size A3. All prints are £30.
